1964: Artist Pierre Brassau, who'd been receiving good reviews, is revealed to be a chimpanzee.

1953: Ingmar Bergman's film "The summer with Monika" opens in Sweden. Actress Harriet Andersson runs naked on cliffs by the sea, carefully shot from behind. Still, reviewers found some scenes too daring.

1943: Actor Joe Pesci is born.

1914: Burlsque dancer Gypsy Lee Rose is born. Her real name was Rose Louise Hovick and she started dancing at age 15. It was a kind of strip routine, by some described more as "tease" than "strip".
